The weapon overhead symbolizes time (past, present, future), His arms represent the mind (Manas), intellect (Buddhi), ego (Ahamkara), and conscience (Chitta).

His hands, and axe represent desires, the whip attachments, the third turned down means blessings, and the fourth holds a lotus, human evolution.
